Eye tests available in 3D
Our hospital-quality OCT scan helps detect eye health problems up to 4 years earlier than traditional imaging methods, so we can get an even better view of your eye health. The OCT scan is in addition to your normal eye test, and you can request it when you arrive in store.
What is an OCT scan?
An Optical Coherence Tomography scan (commonly referred to as an OCT scan) helps us to view the health of your eyes in greater detail, by allowing us to see what’s going on beneath the surface of the eye.
- In a similar way to MRI and ultrasound scans, OCT uses light waves to produce a 3D image of your eye
- Allows us to examine the structures of your eyes in more detail than ever before
- We can see layers of your eye that would not normally be visible during traditional methods
Why do I need to have one?
OCT scans help our opticians to spot common eye health issues up to 4 years earlier than more traditional methods. Seeing a more detailed view of the back of the eye (retina), the optic nerve, and the eye’s structures can help us to quickly detect signs of conditions like:
At least 50% of sight loss is avoidable*, so the sooner we can detect these conditions, the sooner we can help manage them.
What is it like?
The equipment we use is hospital quality and uses a totally safe, laser light source, without X-ray type radiation or puffs of air. You won’t feel any pain or come into contact with anything during the scan. What’s more, it only takes a few seconds.
