If you’re applying for some driving licences in Ireland, you’ll need an eye test so that your optometrist can complete a driving licence eyesight report form. These are not our standard eye test and cost up to €60.
For further details you can visit the NDLS (National Driver Licence Service)
Driving licence applications that need an eyesight report form
You’ll need to book an eye test if you are applying for the following:
- If it’s your first learner driver permit
- If you’re applying to exchange a driving licence issued by a non-EU country
- If you want to remove the 01 notation that requires you to wear glasses while driving – maybe because you’ve had corrective eye surgery
- If you are aged 75 or older, your doctor may request you to have a drivers report in addition to the medical report when renewing your licence
Driving licence applications that do not need an eyesight report form
You won’t need to complete an eyesight report form if you are applying for these types of driving licence:
- If you’re renewing your driving licence or learner permit
- If you’re exchanging a driving licence from another European Union member state
