If you’re applying for some driving licences in Ireland, you’ll need an eye test so that your optometrist can complete a driving licence eyesight report form. These are not our standard eye test and cost up to €60.

How to book a Specsavers driving eye test

Call the store

Call the store to book your ‘Specsavers drivers report’

Fill the form

Your store will have copies available of the NDLS drivers report form

Get an eye test

Your optometrist will complete your eyesight report form at your appointment, you will need to sign the form in front of the optometrist

Submit

Submit your form with your driving licence application or learner permit form within one month of the date it was completed with your optometrist

Driving licence applications that need an eyesight report form

You’ll need to book an eye test if you are applying for the following:

  • If it’s your first learner driver permit
  • If you’re applying to exchange a driving licence issued by a non-EU country
  • If you want to remove the 01 notation that requires you to wear glasses while driving – maybe because you’ve had corrective eye surgery
  • If you are aged 75 or older, your doctor may request you to have a drivers report in addition to the medical report when renewing your licence

Driving licence applications that do not need an eyesight report form

You won’t need to complete an eyesight report form if you are applying for these types of driving licence:

  • If you’re renewing your driving licence or learner permit 
  • If you’re exchanging a driving licence from another European Union member state
