A routine Specsavers eye test costs €30, though prices can vary slightly by location or be reduced if you find an online promotional voucher.

How much different eye tests cost at Specsavers

Specsavers eye tests can differ in price, depending on the requirements. The two main tests include:

• Comprehensive eye test (€30)
• OCT scan (up to €25)

How much does a comprehensive eye exam usually cost?

A comprehensive eye test costs €30*. Many of our stores often run promotional vouchers, where you can receive an eye test for less.

This test includes a case history discussion, pretests such as an air-puff pressure check, a vision refraction test with a letter chart and a detailed eye health check.

Book your comprehensive eye test.

*This does not apply for eye tests for driver reports as these are not our standard eye test and the charge can be up to €60. The cost varies depending on several factors, including:

• The location of the store
• If you’re eligible for a free eye test under the PRSI and the Treatment Benefit Scheme. Read more about the eligibility criteria.
• If you’re eligible under the Medical Card optical benefit schemes (funded by the Department of Social Protection or the HSE).

How much does an OCT scan test cost?

When you book a comprehensive eye test, you can also book an additional Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) test.

In most stores, the cost of our hospital-grade OCT appointments is up to €25 (in addition to the standard eye test cost), this may vary. If in doubt, you can call your local store, and they can confirm.

This test includes a 3D digital scan of the back of your eye, a detailed look beneath the retina's surface and early detection screening for conditions like glaucoma.

You should seek professional advice if you are concerned about your eye health.

Why eye tests matter

You may feel the cost of an eye exam is unnecessary and not worth the money. The importance of an eye test can’t be underestimated.

A comprehensive eye examination at Specsavers provides a vital health check for your eyes and early detection of hidden health conditions, such as:

Systemic Conditions:

Identifies early warning signs of serious illnesses including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Neurological Indicators:

Spots signs of intracranial pressure, tumours, or strokes through changes in the optic nerve head.

Signs you need an eye test:

Most vision changes happen gradually, making them easy to ignore until they start disrupting your day. If you've ever caught yourself wondering, what are the most common signs you need an eye test, the answers are often subtle:

• Blurry eyesight
• Double vision
• Headaches
• Eye strain
• Squinting
• Trouble driving at night

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t wait for them to get worse. Head to our eye test booking page to schedule your appointment.
