How to use vouchers

Simply decide which of our vouchers are required to meet the needs of your business, then order online via our user-friendly voucher portal. On receipt of payment, your vouchers will be made available to you.

Distribute the vouchers to your employees (you can send them digitally or print them off). We can take care of all the administration from then onwards, no need to worry just leave it with us.

The minimum order is just 5 vouchers, from any combination of our products. What’s more, any unused vouchers can be returned for a full refund or replacement up to 60 days after the expiry date.

What are the benefits for my employees?

Once your employees have their vouchers, they can make an appointment at any Specsavers store in the Republic of Ireland to redeem their free eye test or discounted glasses — the benefit will depend on the type of vouchers purchased. 

All they need to do is simply book online or call the store to book an appointment and present the vouchers prior to the test or glasses purchase for safety glasses.

It really is the most simple and cost-effective way for your employees to access the eyecare or eye protection they need!

For employers, Premium Club gives you an instant, valuable benefit to roll out to staff. That’s because when you order any combination of our vouchers, you can request our Premium Club vouchers free.

Distribute the vouchers to your staff, and they can be redeemed at any Specsavers store. Each voucher entitles the holder to a €30 discount off glasses from our €160 range or above.

Employees themselves can also request two further Premium Club vouchers annually, to be used by members of their family so that they can access the same great discount at any one of our ROI stores.

What is the VDU legislation?

Under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations, UK employees who work for long periods with VDUs are entitled to an eye examination, funded by their employer.

If they need glasses solely because of VDU usage, the employer is obliged to pay for basic frames and lenses.

What are the safety eyewear regulations? 

There are several rules and regulations governing safety eyewear in the UK. These include: 

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This stipulates that employers need to consider what risks to health and safety are present in the workplace (including the risk of eye injury), and take sensible steps to tackle them. 

Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999. This sets out how employers should manage risks, including the need for risk assessments. 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulations 1992. This sets out rules on the type, suitability and usage of protective equipment, including eyewear. 

All Specsavers safety glasses conform to EN166 specifications and are British Standards kitemarked. They are also available with prescription lenses, removing the need for clumsy fitting of goggles over glasses.

What are the driving eyecare regulations?

In the UK, there is no absolute duty for employers to provide eye tests and pay for glasses for drivers. 

However, under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, there is a general duty on employers to ensure the health and safety of all staff while at work, and to ensure that others are not put at risk by employees’ work-related activities. 

That’s why the introduction of formal eyecare policies is good practice.

Can my employee use Safety Eyewear vouchers in exchange for everyday glasses?

No - Safety Eyewear vouchers can only be redeemed against the safety eyewear range in store. For every day glasses Optical vouchers would be the best option.

As an employer, am I legally obligated to provide eyecare?

Yes – under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, that came into force on January 1993, you are legally obliged to provide eyecare to certain parts of your workforce. These regulations deal with the suitability of workstations, the daily routines of workers, and the provision of eyecare for staff members.
