Help and frequently asked questions

What is a chalazion?

Answer:

Chalazions are painless, hardened lumps which form when a meibomian gland becomes blocked.

This is the gland that produces part of the tear film which covers your eyes and keeps them healthy and moist.

Some chalazia get better without treatment.

If the problem continues, the blockage needs to be treated by an optician or GP as the gland may become infected and a stye may develop.
