Help and frequently asked questions

Should I burst a stye?

Answer:

No. You should never burst a stye as it will spread the infection and may even cause other complications.

Styes usually disappear or break on their own - if yours breaks, careful treatment will help prevent another infection.

We recommend carefully bathing the eye with cooled, freshly boiled water to clean it of all infected material, but if symptoms persist after treatment you should visit your GP or optician urgently.
