Is glaucoma hereditary?
Answer:
About 1 in every 50 people over the age of 40 has glaucoma. People with a family history of glaucoma are at greater risk of developing the condition, as are Afro-Caribbeans and those who are very short sighted.
This doesn't neccessarily mean that you will develop it just because it runs in your family, but it is important to have regular eye examinations as you get older to identify any problems at an early stage.
