Waterford raises hundreds for The Hope Foundation
Specsavers Waterford put their wheels in motion recently by holding a fundraising static cycle for The Hope Foundation outside the store.
The cycle took place from 9am – 5pm, with members of the Specsavers Waterford team pedalling for 30 minutes each on the day. The store experienced enormous support and kindness from the local community, making this fundraiser a huge success.
Outstanding store support
Specsavers Waterford store director Garvan Mulligan said: ‘As one of Specsavers’ supported charities, we were delighted to take part in a fun activity to support The Hope Foundation. We would like to thank locals for their amazing generosity on the day.’
The Hope Foundation
In 2017, a team of optometrists from Specsavers stores in Ireland embarked on a volunteering trip with The Hope Foundation to Kolkata, carrying out over 1,000 eye tests on people across slums, schools, hospitals and rural villages in the region. They dispensed over 300 pairs of glasses and 600 pairs of pre-made bifocals to those who were tested. In addition to this, urgent referrals were made for eye disease and trauma-related issues, as well as 100 referrals for cataracts, to The Hope Hospital.
As part of the new fundraising campaign, Specsavers staff will return to Kolkata in October, alongside new ambassador – Darren Kennedy. Already a Specsavers style ambassador and curator of his very own Darren Kennedy Recommends collection, Darren is delighted to team up with Specsavers and The Hope Foundation on this important mission.
