Gabriella Marsella is spec-tacular at star studded awards
Drogheda resident Gabriella Marsella rubbed shoulders with an array of specs-wearing superstars at the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards on Tuesday, 10 October.
The 26-year-old took to the stage to receive her Spectacle Wearer of the Year award at the glamorous event staged by Specsavers. The 22nd Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards, hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, was in aid of anti-bullying charity Kidscape. Gabriella was selected from thousands of hopefuls to be crowned the Irish winner.
A worthy winner
After receiving her award from Specsavers Ireland ambassador and fashion collaborator, Darren Kennedy, Gabriella said, ‘I am so honoured to have been awarded the title of Ireland’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year and to have represented Ireland at the awards.
'I originally entered the Specsavers competition for fun, but it has been a once in a lifetime experience. I have always been a proud specs wearer, but winning this competition has instilled a confidence in wearing glasses that I hope will inspire others to wear their frames with pride.’
Celebrities were also rewarded on the night with Steps star Claire Richards winning the Specs Appeal Award, Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith winning Services to Specs award – in honour of her decades of proud glasses wearing – and Good Morning Britain’s Richard Arnold taking home Best Newcomer.
Many other specs-wearing stars were seen on the red carpet, including Twiggy; Vogue Williams and Spencer Matthews; Martin and Roman Kemp; Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies; Chris Hughes and Liv Atwood; Vicky Pattison; Megan McKenna and Pete Wicks; Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet; Lisa Snowden.
The awards saw Alex Miller, age 27 from Essex, presented with the overall Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017 prize.
