Through to next round of Spectacle Wearer Of The Year
Bernadine Lynham from Clondalkin is one step closer to winning the coveted title of Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year after being chosen as a semi-finalist in the 60+ age category.
Following a nationwide search, Bernadine beat off stiff competition from hundreds of entries and is one of eight semi-finalists who will compete to represent Ireland at the Grand Final in London on Tuesday, 10 October at 8 Northumberland Avenue.
Specsavers dispensing optician Derek Kerby and assistant manager at Specsavers Clondalkin, Sean Daly, are pictured presenting Bernadine with her prize, which consisted of a Specsavers eyewear voucher to the value of €215, a framed certificate and a bottle of champagne.
Speaking at the prize-giving, Bernadine said: ‘My glasses say everything about me. I have been wearing glasses for 20 years now and I love my varifocals as I can see everything without having to take them on or off.’
Sean Daly, assistant store manager at Specsavers Clondalkin added, ‘We are delighted that a customer from our store has been chosen as a semi-finalist in the 60+ category and we would like to congratulate Bernadine on this achievement. She wears her glasses with style and confidence so is a worthy winner in our eyes.’
The Irish semi-finalists were chosen from all over the country and one lucky winner will receive a makeover before mingling with celebrities at the star-studded Grand Final in London, which celebrates specs wearers from the Republic of Ireland and the UK.
Competition ambassador and former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle will announce the overall Spectacle Wearer of the Year who will win €12,000 in cash and €1,000 to spend on eyecare in Specsavers.

The money raised will go towards the development of The Department of Ophthalmology, adding to the €180,000 that Specsavers has already raised for the charity since 2014.
