Making sure children are visible
Specsavers Letterkenny has donated hi-viz vests to children at Scoil Mhuire Girl’s school as part of the Road Safety initiative which aims to keep children safe on Irish roads over the coming months.
Hi-vis vests were distributed to six classes in total, from Senior Infants to First Class.
Between 1997 and 2012, 262 children aged between 0-14 were killed and 1115 were seriously injured on Irish roads. Poor visibility Motorists often find it hard to see pedestrians wearing dark clothes at night or when visibility is poor and so it is vital that children are easily seen. This is an issue as many school uniforms are dark and most primary schools don‘t have rules about outer garments.
Specsavers Letterkenny also promotes road safety through our Drive Safe campaign, which calls for all drivers to have regular eye tests in order to be safe on the roads.
