Staff members from the Athlone store showed their support by climbing the staggering scenic 764 metre mountain on the 11 May in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
Customers were invited to drop into their local store and show their support by getting sponsoring the climbers or making a donation to the charity. The climb was a massive success with the store raising over €1,300 for the worthwhile cause.
Having exceeded the initial €100,000 fundraising target, Specsavers Ireland recently presented Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin with a cheque for €120,000 and announced that it would be extending its commitment to the hospital by pledging to raise an additional €100,000.
Specsavers Athlone Director Keith McCallion said, “We would like to thank the local community for their unwavering support. We were amazed by the level of enthusiasm and the generosity of customers and staff who really got behind the campaign. Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin provides invaluable care to sick children and the money raised is enabling the charity to make a tremendous difference to the lives of families across the country.”
