Store unveils brand new hearing centre Continuing its commitment to providing the best level of healthcare to the local community, Specsavers Tralee has undergone a refurbishment and opened its brand new hearing centre.

The state-of-the-art facility was recently unveiled by the store’s longest-standing customers of 22 years, husband and wife, Daniel and Eileen Curran who have trusted Specsavers with their eye health since 1995.

Family fun day

Customers entered the store through a green and white balloon arch and were treated to light refreshments on the day. The Specsavers ‘Big Ear’ was also there to add to the fun and festivities. Throughout the afternoon the store’s professional staff were on hand to talk to customers about any hearing related queries.

Latest technology

Store director Maura O’Donnell says: ‘At Specsavers, we are committed to developing and improving our stores so that customers have access to the latest technology, as well as the best in-store expertise from knowledgeable optometrists and audiologists. We were delighted to welcome both new and old customers to the unveiling of the store’s new hearing centre.’

Proactive approach to hearing

The Tralee store is encouraging people to take a more proactive approach to their hearing health, as new research reveals the majority of Irish adults (69%) have not had their hearing tested in the last five years. The research also revealed that one in six Irish adults suffer from hearing loss, with the incidence increasing significantly with age. *

Highlighting the importance of this, Tralee store audiologist Rory Perry comments: ‘Untreated hearing loss can affect every aspect of life, leading to depression and social isolation, which is why early diagnosis is key.

'Regular hearing checks should be part of everyone’s healthcare routine and we recommend that people over the age of 55 get a hearing test every two years. Specsavers Tralee provides access to professional advice, to anyone who has concerns, so they can take the first step in tackling hearing loss.’

The store offers free three-minute hearing screenings, with impartial advice, fittings and aftercare. There is no need to book an appointment and the screener lets customers know whether they would benefit from a full hearing test, which takes around an hour.

Rechargeable hearing aids

The store is now also delighted to offer rechargeable hearing aids as part of its hearing package, ideal for those who do not want the fuss of changing batteries. Signia Cellion primax hearing aids are the world’s first hearing aids with lithium-ion inductive charging. They are simple, smart and powerful meaning you will enjoy the benefit of all-day hearing and the simplicity of recharging.

*The nationally representative survey was conducted in November 2016 by Empathy Research through an online omnibus survey. A sample size of 1,000 was achieved with quotas set on gender, age, social class and region to achieve a sample aligned with national population.
