Peter McGrath, Store Director at Specsavers Henry Street, Grafton Street and Santry, celebrates 25 years with Specsavers this month.
The Tyrone born optician kick-started his career in 1988 in the UK, before spreading his wings and moving to Melbourne for one year. Peter then returned to Dublin in 1991 when he teamed up with former university classmate, Seamus Breslin, to set up the first Specsavers store in Ireland on Henry Street.
Following their substantial involvement in the management of Specsavers Henry Street, Peter and Seamus proceeded to set up Specsavers Grafton Street in 1995 and Santry in 2001.
Celebrating Peter’s commitment
To celebrate Peter’s commitment to bringing Specsavers’ customers the best possible optical care over 25 years, Specsavers founder, Dame Mary Perkins, gave him a to scale replica of the Specsavers store which is currently on display.
Development and advancement
Peter strives for professionalism and wholly supports the development and advancement of Specsavers’ staff for customer’s benefit. Peter holds a place on Specsavers Professional Leadership Council for Ireland and the UK as well as the Leading Partners Forum.
A graduate of University of Manchester, Peter is fully qualified to use the sophisticated fundus camera, a state of the art piece of equipment which Specsavers has invested in that can play an important role in the early detection of eye disease such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Peter believes in technological advancement for the benefit of his customers and strongly advocates Digital Precision Eyecare, the cutting edge new way of selecting and fitting customers’ glasses.
In addition to being experts in eye health, Peter’s stores all specialise in hearing with an on-site hearing centre at Henry Street managed by highly trained audiologist Stephen Danczak. A free hearcare screening is provided throughout each of Peter’s Dublin stores, which involves a simple three minute test with no appointment necessary.
First class optical care
When setting up Specsavers, providing first class optical care locally was one of Peter’s main goals – 25 years on, this success speaks for itself.
