Stillorgan host fun day for grandparents and children
In celebration of the launch of the Grandparent of the Year Award, Specsavers Stillorgan in the Stillorgan Shopping Centre is hosting an in-store family fun day this Saturday, 15 October to encourage grandchildren to spend precious time with their grandparents.
The store will hold a colouring competition on the day, which grandchildren can enter to win a fabulous hamper full of Specsavers goodies.
Family fun day
Speaking ahead of the in-store event, Specsavers store director Krista Brown said, ‘We are excited to celebrate the launch of the Grandparent of the Year Award with a family fun day which recognises the special relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren. Older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness, as are those with untreated hearing loss, so we are keen to demonstrate the wonderful benefits of intergenerational engagement. We would like to invite grandchildren of all ages to bring along their grandparents to Specsavers Stillorgan for what promises to be a fun day.’
Communication and conversation
Specsavers recently announced a partnership with Third Age, a national voluntary organisation committed to responding positively to the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Ireland and supporting the contribution of older people to their communities. All programmes, both national and regional, share an underlying philosophy of social inclusion and connectivity through communication and conversation. Third Age has over 1,400 older volunteers working in three national programmes, supporting isolated older people, migrants and older people in nursing homes and in the community that are in need of care.
