Mahon Point opens new store and creates new jobs
On 11 December, the 53rd Irish Specsavers store opened its doors in Mahon Point and created 10 new jobs for the local community.
The store is the sixth Specsavers store to open in Cork. Specsavers is a group of independent local businesses and since opening its first Irish store in 1991, has continued to expand its presence throughout the country, employing over 1,000 people nationwide.
The newly opened store is a state-of-the-art facility, that will house all the latest equipment in its two testing rooms, along with a soundproof room to ensure the best results when conducting hearing tests.
Committed to bringing the latest equipment to its customers, the store offers digital retinal photography – technology that allows optometrists take a detailed photo of the back of the eye, which can greatly help monitor eye health.
The store also uses Digital Precision Eyecare, a cutting-edge way of selecting and fitting customers’ glasses using imaging software on tablet devices, and also has a Henson 9000 Visual Field Machine which allows testing for group 2 driving licenses.
Importance of Regular Eye Tests
Further highlighting how regular eye tests are important not just for sight but overall eye health, the new store also has a “4 in one” pre-test machine which includes Pachymetry, useful in screening for risk of glaucoma in cases of raised intraocular pressure.
It is a device that measures the thickness of the cornea and accordingly adjusts the intra ocular pressure for a more accurate reading.
The store is overseen by store directors John and Claire Morrin, together with a team of experienced optometrists, audiologists and highly trained staff, providing customers with unparalleled service and value for money.
Serving the community
Speaking about the opening, store director John Morrin said: ‘Having opened the Specsavers store at Opera Lane, Cork city, 18 months ago, Claire and I are thrilled to be open our new store in Mahon Point Shopping Centre.
'We are delighted to have opened the 53rd Irish Specsavers in Ireland and to have created new job opportunities for the local community. This opening illustrates the consistent growth of Specsavers in Ireland, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.
'We look forward to welcoming customers to the new store which offers exceptional optical and hearing services along with stylish yet affordable eyewear to the people of Cork.’
