Specsavers Liffey Valley is proud to inform customers that store director Lisa Walsh will travel to Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) with The Hope Foundation alongside team members Mohamed Quershi and Orla Murphy.
Six days in Kolkata
This is the first mission that Specsavers has embarked on with The Hope Foundation and Lisa and the team will be spending six days in Kolkata this November, carrying out eye tests throughout the slums and across several children’s hospitals.
These eye tests will enable the team to prescribe glasses, where necessary restoring vision to children who would otherwise have been deprived of this basic need. The gift of sight could change many of these children’s lives enabling them to live their life to the full.
In an effort to support the Specsavers Liffey Valley team’s upcoming visit, a fundraising Treadmill-A-Thon will take place in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre on Saturday, 27 May.
Lead by Specsavers staff member and RTE’s Operation Transformation leader, Sean Daly, the Liffey Valley team will take turns on the treadmill throughout the day.
Lisa Walsh, store director at Specsavers Liffey Valley commented: ‘In Ireland, we have access to excellent eye care but many children in Kolkata are not as lucky, making it vital that we do all we can to improve their eye health services while there.
Putting the team through their paces
'We’re really looking forward to a successful fundraising day on Saturday and are eager to see Sean apply his learnings from RTE Operation Transformation by putting the team through their paces!
'We urge shoppers to give what they can on the day and a raffle will be held in-store to be in with a chance to win a pair of Darren Kennedy Recommends frames, which launched in Specsavers stores this week.’
