Specsavers Unveils 15th Dublin Store In Donaghmede Shopping Centre Specsavers has opened the doors to a new Donaghmede store, marking the 15th Specsavers to open in Dublin and creating 11 new jobs. The store was officially opened by former Dublin Gaelic footballer, Ciarán Whelan, on Saturday 24 November.
Welcome to the store
The team at Specsavers Donaghmede hosted a family fun day to celebrate the official opening, with a face painter and balloon modeller to entertain customers of all ages. Ciarán Whelan was on hand to meet and greet customers and speak to them about the importance of prioritising eye and hearing health. Staff handed out almost 200 goody bags to customers as well as sweet treats for the children.
The store is overseen by store partners Ruairí O’Neill and Jason Reynolds. Together with an experienced team of optometrists, audiologists and highly trained staff, Specsavers Donaghmede will provide customers with great service and value for money across both optical and audiology. Located in Donaghmede Shopping Centre and measuring 1,200 sq ft, the new store employs 11 staff members, including six who are local to the area.

Store partner, Ruairí O’Neill continued: ‘We are committed to bringing advanced technology to the people of Donaghmede. We use high-tech machinery which can play an important role in the early detection of eye disease as we don’t just see it as a sight test but as part of an overall eye health check.’ State-of-the-art facility The newly opened store is a state-of-the-art facility that will house all the latest equipment including three bespoke optical testing rooms and a soundproof hearing room for hearing checks. Continuing its commitment to providing customers with the best service, the store has invested in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), a cutting-edge piece of equipment usually found in hospital eye departments. It is used for a variety of functions including the screening and management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Customers seeking the latest fashionable eyewear need look no further than Specsavers Donaghamede, which boasts over 1,000 frames from top designers including Kylie Minogue Eyewear Collection, will.i.am, Love Moschino, Balmain and the newly launched Lyle & Scott collection. The team of highly trained stylists also offer customers Specsavers’ new virtual try-on technology, Frame Styler, which helps customers choose the perfect pair of specs to suit their face shape and overall style. Staff will also be on hand to offer expert advice to contact lens wearers.
On-site hearing centre
In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers Donaghmede also houses an on-site hearing centre with an audiologist on site every Tuesday. The store provides free three-minute hearing screenings letting customers know whether they would benefit from a full hearing check.
Specsavers Donaghmede also offers customers PRSI optical and hearing benefits, which are available to both employed and self-employed workers. Under the PRSI treatment benefit, anyone who has been employed or self-employed in Ireland for two years, is entitled to a free eye or hearing check. They’re also entitled to a free pair of €59 Specsavers glasses or contribution to the €89 range or above and are eligible for half of the cost of a hearing aid, up to a maximum of €500 for a single aid, or up to €1,000 for a pair. Customers can also claim up to 50% off repairs and replacement hearing aids too.
