Specsavers opened its latest store at the Galway Shopping Centre, Headford Road on Thursday 4th December creating five new jobs for the area and making it the 48th Specsavers store to open in Ireland.
Official ribbon cutting
The opening was attended by Mayor of Galway Cllr. Donal Lyons, Galway’s very own GAA star Ollie Canning and 3 times All-Ireland winner and President of the Galway County Board, Christy Tyrrell who were on hand to officially launch the new store and take part in the ribbon cutting.

Highest level of service
Situated in a prime location within the Galway Shopping Centre, the new store houses two dedicated testing rooms overseen by Optometrists and co-Store Directors Noel Meehan and Cathy O’Boyle together with Miriam Murphy, dispensing optician James Kavanagh and highly trained optical assistants Niamh Lynn, Kellie McKee and Kenneth McNamara, ensuring the highest level of service is delivered. Specsavers stores, located at Eyre Square and on Headford Road, now collectively provide employment for 40 people in Galway.
Store opening celebrations
Galway Bay FM radio kicked off the store opening celebrations by broadcasting news of the opening throughout the week and holding fantastic giveaways for designer frames each day. Mayor of Galway Cllr. Donal Lyons spoke of the store opening, ‘As Mayor of Galway, I want to congratulate all involved in the opening of the new Specsavers store in the Galway Shopping Centre. The opening of this store is another vote of confidence in the Galway retail sector and will add significantly to the range of stores and products already available in the Galway Shopping Centre’.
In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers Headford Road will also offer hearing services with a clinic being held every Monday overseen by highly skilled audiologists Adrainne Preston Kelly and Liz Ryan. All hearing tests are free and complete digital hearing aids start from €750. Customers are also given the opportunity to take a three-minute hearing check to assess whether they need a full hearing test.

As well as providing eye and ear health for all glasses and contact lens wearers, the newly decorated store will provide the ultimate shopping experience for everyone. With a range of designer sunglasses, and gift vouchers available, even non-prescription glasses wearers can enjoy stylish and affordable eyewear with the Specsavers Galway Shopping Centre experience.
