Specsavers Cork to host event for grandparents and grandchildren
To celebrate UN International Day of Older Persons on Saturday 01 October 2016, Specsavers Cork at 2 Opera Lane is hosting an in-store event for grandparents. The aim of the event is to encourage grandchildren to spend precious time with their grandparents.
To add a splash of colour to the occasion, there will be free face painting and carnival cut-outs for memorable pictures. Guests can also look forward to refreshments and treats throughout the day.
Speaking ahead of the event, Specsavers store director John Morrin said, ‘We are excited to celebrate UN International Day of Older Persons with a family fun day which recognises the special relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren. Older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness, as are those with untreated hearing loss, so we are keen to demonstrate the wonderful benefits of intergenerational engagement. We would like to invite grandchildren of all ages to bring along their grandparents to Specsavers Opera Lane for what promises to be a fun day.’
Specsavers recently announced a partnership with Third Age, a national voluntary organisation committed to responding positively to the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Ireland and supporting the contribution of older people to their communities. All programmes, both national and regional, share an underlying philosophy of social inclusion and connectivity through communication and conversation. Third Age has over 1,400 older volunteers working in three national programmes, supporting isolated older people, migrants and older people in nursing homes and in the community that are in need of care.
