Specsavers is delighted to announce that Sohaila Lindheim has won the coveted title of Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2018. Following a nationwide search, Sohaila, a Limerick native, beat off stiff competition from over a thousand entries for a place at the grand final in London on Wednesday 24 October at Northumberland Avenue.
Speaking about her win, Sohaila said: ‘I’m absolutely over the moon to have been chosen as the Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year, as I know so many people from across the country entered the competition. I’m excited to attend the grand final in London and represent Ireland. To experience something like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I intend to enjoy every minute of it!’

Store director at Specsavers Limerick stores, Sinead Clohessy, says: ‘We are delighted that a customer from Specsavers Cruises Street has been chosen as the overall Irish finalist and we would like to congratulate Sohaila on this achievement. We want to wish her the very best of luck as she represents Ireland in the overall final in the UK in October.’
Sohaila was chosen from five age categories; 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. As part of her prize, she will receive a full makeover before mingling with celebrities at the star-studded grand final in London, which celebrates specs wearers from the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Competition ambassador and former Steps star, Claire Richards, will announce the overall Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2018 who will win €12,000 in cash and €1,000 to spend on eye care in Specsavers.
Now in its 23rd year, the competition raises valuable funds for the National Council of the Blind, Ireland, with €1 donated to the charity for each eligible entry received.
