Specsavers opened its latest store in Ballina, Co. Mayo, creating in 8 jobs for the area, making it the 47th Specsavers store to open in Ireland since 1991.

Speaking about the opening, which was attended by local Fianna Fail Cllr. Annie May Reape together with Fine Gael Cllr. John O’Hara, Store Director Kelley McGrath commented, ‘As Ireland's most trusted optician, Specsavers is passionate about providing fashionable and affordable eyecare for everyone. Our new store located in the heart of Ballina is fully equipped to deliver the best in eye testing technology to our customers. We look forward to welcoming everyone into the store to see for themselves the great range of glasses available, as well as availing of the on-site eye testing facilities.’
Situated in a prime location at Tone Street, the new store houses two dedicated testing rooms overseen by the two store owners, Ophthalmic Director Eva Roache and Pre-Reg Dispensing Optician Kelly McGrath, along with a team of highly trained optical assistants, to ensure a high level of service.
Mid-West radio kicked off the store opening celebrations by broadcasting their popular Mid-Morning show from the new store bringing lots of fun and theatre in store for staff and customers. To further celebrate the big occasion a family fun day was rolled out to welcome all the new customers. Face painters were on hand to add a touch colour to the store’s young visitors, whilst mums and dads had fun with the in-store competitions that took place throughout the day. Each customer who popped in on the day of the opening was entered into a raffle to win one of five pairs of designer spectacles.
State-of-the-art eye testing facilities
Customers can avail of the latest state-of-the-art eye testing facilities, including digital retinal photography. This sophisticated process uses a camera to produce detailed images of the back of the eye that can assist in the detection and management of a variety of health issues, including diabetes, inflammatory disorders, age related macular degeneration, vascular occlusions and tumors.

With over 1,200 frames on display, including exclusive John Rocha and Aurora ranges, there really is something to suit everyone’s style. Staff can also offer customers expert advice to contact lens wearers.
In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers Ballina will also offer hearing services from September onwards, with a clinic being held every Tuesday. All hearing tests are free and complete digital hearing aids start from €750. All customers are also given the opportunity to take a three-minute hearing check to assess whether they need a full hearing test.
Medical cards and PRSI accepted
Customers can expect great value offerings at Specsavers Ballina, with medical cards and PRSI accepted. Specsavers Ballina is open every weekday from 9.00am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, with late night opening until 8pm on Thursday. Specsavers is a group of independent local businesses, which employs over 900 people nationwide.
