Local competing to win Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year
Saranne Murray from Liffey Valley is one step closer to winning the coveted title of Irish Spectacle Wearer of the Year after being chosen as a semi-finalist in the 25-34 age category.
Following a nationwide search, Saranne beat off stiff competition from hundreds of entries and is one of eight semi-finalists who will compete to represent Ireland at the Grand Final in London on Tuesday, 10 October at 8 Northumberland Avenue.
Store manager at Specsavers Liffey Valley, Conor Dewey, is pictured alongside team members Sarah Lawless, Chinnu Eliyas and Paula Dillon presenting Saranne with her prize, which consisted of a Specsavers eyewear voucher to the value of €215, a framed certificate and a bottle of champagne.
Speaking at the prize-giving, Saranne said: ‘When I was younger I was often picked on for wearing glasses, I hated wearing them and would avoid it when possible.
'As I grew older I realised that they are a part of who I am and so I embraced it. I am now proud to wear them and present my true self to the world.’
Specsavers store manager, Conor added: ‘We are delighted that a customer from our store has been chosen as a semi-finalist in the 25-34 category and we would like to congratulate Saranne on this achievement. She wears her glasses with style and confidence so is a worthy winner in our eyes.’
Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin
Now in its 22nd year, the competition raises valuable funds for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin with €1 donated to the charity for each eligible entry received. The money raised will go towards the development of The Department of Ophthalmology, adding to the €180,000 that Specsavers has already raised for the charity since 2014.
