The results are in! Specsavers is proud to announce Judith Flynn, aged 11, from Dalystown National School as the junior winner of Specsavers Children’s Story Competition 2015.
Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards
As part of the 10th annual Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, Specsavers celebrated its sponsorship of the Irish Children's Book of the Year Category (Senior & Junior) by asking children across the country to put their imagination to the test and write a short story.
Judith’s winning entry, titled ‘The Magical Adventure of Alfie and Ara’, tells the story of 11-year-old twins, who experience a day of mischief and danger after stumbling upon a pair of magical glasses. Ara and Alfie enter the dark underworld of the sea and befriend a mermaid called Merida. However, danger suddenly calls and Ara must rescue Alfie before he is taken from her forever.
Speaking about this year’s competition, Specsavers Mullingar Store Director Elaine McGovern said, “The standard of writing was incredibly high this year, with hundreds of budding writers across the country submitting their creative entries.
Judith, whose local Specsavers is here in Mullingar, was delighted to learn she had won. There’s no doubt that Judith is now in good company, as she joins a long list of award winning Irish novelists who started their careers writing short stories”.
