Specsavers opticians across Ireland have committed to raising €100,000 to go towards the refurbishment of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin’s ophthalmology unit. They have just passed the halfway mark, following successful in-store static cycles earlier this year and other fundraising activities.

Great achievement

To celebrate this milestone, the team at the Portlaoise hosted a Superhero Family Fun Day raising a further €450 for Specsavers charity of the year, bringing the total raised by the store to date to €1,300.

Store staff made a fantastic effort to dress up for the day and face painters were on hand to ensure visitors and passers-by really got in on the action. The Lyster Lane store was fully decorated and raffles and collections ran throughout the day.

Super turnout

Store director, Dolores O’Neill said: ‘We’re delighted that all of our staff dressed up and were so enthusiastic and involved with the day’s events. It was also great to have local people stop in and really engage with the face painters and Specsavers staff. We always find the people of Portlaoise to be very generous when it comes to donating to Crumlin and the €450 raised over the weekend is further testament to this. I’ve no doubt that Specsavers will hit the €100,000 target within the year.’
