The NCBI Specsavers HolmPatrick Cup arrived at The K Club on Sunday, 10 September, where golf clubs from all over Dublin teed off to compete for the chance to play in St Andrew’s Scotland and win the prestigious trophy.

Provincial finals

Ronan O’Driscoll and Patrick Hogan from Sutton Golf Club, Jack Herbert and Matthew Quinn-Taylor from Howth Golf Club, Dermot Brady and Alex Banahan from Beverstown Golf Club, Billy Kelly and Dermot Moran from The Island Golf Club, Glenn Gibbons and Tim O’Connell from Clontarf Golf Club and Liam Morgan and Gerry Keating from Malahide Golf Club competed at the Dublin Final of the Specsavers HolmPatrick Cup. In total, six teams from across Co.

Dublin competed on the day, with Howth Golf Club coming out on top and placing first for Dublin.

Charity golf competition

Over the past five months, the NCBI Specsavers HolmPatrick Cup has seen GUI-affiliated golf courses across the country hold qualifying tournaments from local to county level. Following this, these winners competed in the provincial finals to compete for a place at the final.

The four provincial winners; Howth Golf Club, Longford Golf Club, Nenagh Golf Club and Castlebar Golf Club will play at the final, which is hosted this October at the world-renowned St Andrew’s Links in Scotland.

Raising awareness

Speaking about the involvement of Dublin stores, director across a number of Dublin Specsavers stores, Peter McGrath says: ‘Specsavers Dublin stores are delighted to be able to give back to the community and show our support. It was great to have such a fantastic turn out competing at the Dublin Final in The K Club recently.

'We are proud to support the National Council for the Blind of Ireland, which is the perfect partner for Specsavers. We are a local community optician and hearing centre and supporting local clubs, charities and organisations is a key part of our culture.’

Charity partner

Earlier this year, Specsavers announced a partnership with the National Council for the Blind of Ireland, which will include a two-year sponsorship deal and fundraising of at least €30,000.
