Cork store host event for grandparents and grandchildren
To celebrate the recent UN International Day of Older Persons, Specsavers Cork City at 2 Opera Lane hosted an in-store event for grandparents. The aim of the event was to encourage grandchildren to spend precious time with their grandparents.
The day was a wonderful success, with free face painting for customers and carnival cut-outs for memorable pictures adding a splash of colour to the store. Guests were also served refreshments and treats throughout the day.
The whole Opera Lane team were involved in the day’s activities and are pictured in store, wearing colourful t-shirts to celebrate.
John Morrin said
Speaking after the event, Specsavers Cork City store director John Morrin said, ‘We loved hosting a family fun day to recognise the special relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren. Older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness, as are those with untreated hearing loss, so we are keen to demonstrate the wonderful benefits of intergenerational engagement.’
Specsavers recently announced a partnership with Third Age, a national voluntary organisation committed to responding positively to the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Ireland and supporting the contribution of older people to their communities.
Grandchildren of all ages can nominate their grandparents by filling out an entry form in Specsavers’ 50 stores nationwide or online at www.specsavers.ie/hearing/grandparent. Four regional finalists from Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster will receive a €215 Specsavers voucher, a bottle of champagne and a finalists’ certificate. The overall winner will receive a weekend away in Ireland, a Grandparent of the Year trophy and a €750 voucher for Specsavers while the grandchild who nominated them will win an iPad Air.
