To celebrate the fifth year of the Specsavers’ Sound Check Ireland Roadshow, Specsavers announced that they would be introducing two mobile hearing vans to travel the length and breadth of the country to raise awareness of the importance of hearing throughout the year.

Mobile hearing vans

These special mobile hearing vans are designed to make it even easier for people to take the first step in tackling hearing loss. Free on site hearing screenings and professional advice will be available to anyone who is concerned about their hearing.

The hearing van will be visiting the following locations on the dates below:

* Monday, 9 May -                Tesco, Ballinasloe

* Tuesday, 10 May-              Main Street, Longford

* Wednesday, 11 May –         Dunnes, Roscommon

* Thursday, 12 May -            Golden Island, Athlone

* Friday, 13 May -                 O'Connor Square, Tullamore

* Saturday, 14 May -             Super-Valu Monkslan, Athlone

Rgular hearing tests

Director of Specsavers Athlone Keith McCallion comments on the importance of regular hearing tests stating that ‘Untreated hearing loss can impact negatively on all areas of daily life so if you suspect that someone close to you struggles with their hearing, don’t let them suffer in silence and encourage them to seek advice’.

Untreated hearing loss can affect every aspect of life and lead to depression and social isolation which is why early diagnosis is key. Identifying the problem early and addressing hearing loss with an expert can mean preserving the ability to communicate with friends and family well into later life.

Specsavers recommendation

Regular hearing checks should be part of everyone’s healthcare routine and at Specsavers we recommend that people over the age of 55 get a hearing test every two years.
