To celebrate their official sponsorship of the Active Retirement Ireland Trade and Tourism show, Specsavers brought the Sound Check Booth to the show at the Radisson Blu Hotel. The Sound Check booth offered visitors the opportunity to avail of complimentary hearing screenings, as well as to speak to a qualified Specsavers audiologist.

Survey Results

A survey conducted at the event revealed that of the respondents that suffered from hearing loss, 82% of them had still not done anything about it while a staggering 92% of respondents were not aware that hearing loss can be an early detector of dementia. Over three quarters of people surveyed (77%) also revealed that they were not aware that hearing loss can lead to depression.

Hearing director at Specsavers Galway, Liz Ryan commented, ‘The presence of the Sound Check Ireland booth gives us the opportunity to remind people about the importance of looking after their hearing. We need to remove the stigma associated with hearing loss, in the same way as has been achieved with glasses.’

Experts in eye and ear health

In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers also specialise in hearing with on-site hearing centres managed by qualified partners and staff. This offers an alternative for the 48% of respondents who said they would visit their GP to have their hearing checked, which would incur a cost for the patient. Specsavers hearing centres provide a free, three-minute hearing screenings, with no need to book a full appointment and no obligation to buy. The screener lets customers know whether they would benefit from having a full hearing test, which takes about one hour.
