Help and frequently asked questions

What is the treatment for posterior vitreous separation / detachment?

There's no treatment required for posterior vitreous separation and the symptoms usually resolve after several weeks or months. The floaters may persist indefinitely.

Some opticians suggest that you are monitored annually.

It shouldn't be confused with the more serious condition, retinal detachment.

There are several warning signs for retinal detachment, and you should get an urgent re-examination if you experience any of the following:

  • A sudden increase in the number of floaters in your vision
  • A decrease in visual field
  • A veil coming across the vision
