How to Enter
All you have to do is tell us why you think your grandparent is truly exceptional and should be recognised as the best in Ireland.
Make sure your entry is no longer than 500 words; 250 words are enough if you are under 12 years old.
The closing date for the competition is 3 January 2020.
The overall winning Grandparent will be crowned Specsavers Irish Grandparent of the Year 2019, and receive a trophy to prove it, along with a €750 hearing voucher and a weekend away in Ireland.
The lucky grandchild who nominated them also receives their very own iPad. The winner will be picked from four regional finalists who will each receive a €189 Specsavers eyecare voucher, a bottle of Champagne and an awards final certificate.
COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Entrants and nominees (including the nominated Grandparent) must be resident in the Republic of Ireland. The competition is not open to employees of the Specsavers Group or Beaumont Hospital or their families or members of their households or anyone professionally associated with the competition. Entries must be made by sending a completed entry form (including nomination) to Specsavers Grandparent of the Year Awards, c/o WHPR, 6 Ely Place, Dublin 2 or submitting online via a dedicated webform at specsavers.ie/hearing/grandparent
No purchase is necessary. Entries will not be returned. Entrants who are under the age of 18 must obtain their parent’s/guardian’s consent to enter. Specsavers does not accept any responsibility for late, lost or ineligible entries. Proof of posting is not proof of receipt. Only one entry per person.
The competition will open on Friday 6 November 2019 and all entries must be received by midnight on Friday 3 January 2020 (“Closing Date”). Entries received after the Closing Date will not be included. Four regional winners from each of the Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster regions will be selected by a panel of judges whose decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The entry that the judges think is the strongest nomination, selected from the four regional winners, will be crowned as overall winner. Winners and/or their parent or guardian will be contacted by telephone on or after 13 January 2020.
Specsavers reserves the right to reallocate a prize if the winner cannot be contacted after at least three attempts to do so. No purchase is required. Winners’ names can be obtained upon request in writing from Specsavers Irish Grandparent of the Year Awards, c/o WHPR, 6 Ely Place, Dublin 2 from 27 January 2020. Entrants and nominees must be willing to take part in all competition publicity (including and not limited to the publication of the their (and families) full name and image on the Specsavers websites, social media accounts, Specsavers Magazine and in local and national media) and agree to have their nomination published. All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to Specsavers will become the property of Specsavers on receipt. By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, the entrant agrees to assign to Specsavers all its intellectual property rights with full title guarantee and in and to your competition entry and you also give your consent to your name being placed on a list of winners and being made available, subject to entrants under the age of 18 having the consent of their parent or guardian to have their name placed on a list of winners and being made available. In consideration of providing the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to Specsavers to feature any or all of the submitted nomination and images taken of the winner and nominee in connection with the competition in any publications and/or in any promotional material connected to the competition including all online, social media and additional platforms owned or utilised by Specsavers.
There are four regional prizes available each consisting of a €189 Specsavers eyecare voucher, one bottle of Champagne and award certificate. The overall winner selected from the four regional winners will also win a €750 Specsavers hearing voucher, the Irish Grandparent of the Year trophy and a family weekend break (2 nights including breakfast and dinner on 1 night) in Republic of Ireland for up to four people, staying at a four star hotel approved by Specsavers. Accommodation is based on four people sharing two standard hotel rooms. The break must be booked with Specsavers at least one month before the proposed date of travel and is subject to availability. The overall winner’s grandchild that nominated them will receive a €399 10.2 inch Apple iPad with WiFi Connectivity.
The prize does not include travel insurance, the cost of travel to and from the hotel, spending money, tax or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred in addition to those set out above and that are incidental to the fulfilment of the prize are the responsibility of the winner. Prizes are non-transferable, cannot be exchanged and no cash alternative will be offered. Specsavers reserves the right to alter or substitute any element of the prize, whether available or not, with a prize of a similar value. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and agreed to abide by them by entering this competition. Insofar as is permitted by law, Specsavers, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of Specsavers, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected. This competition is promoted by Specsavers Ireland Limited, La Villiaze, St Andrew’s, Guernsey, Channel Islands, GY6 8YP. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. All winners' names will be available on request and publicised by Specsavers.
